The idea to open Íshúsið Pizzeria could be attributed to the enthusiasm and passion of the brothers Stefán Þór and Atli Arnarson for cuisine.
The brothers were born and raised in Höfn and the location by the harbour played a big part when they decided to make their dream come true and started to build Íshúsið in October 2016.
You could say that it was just exactly there by the harbour where the brothers started their career when they were threading needles for fishing nets for their father as young boys.
The demand for diverse food culture in Hofn also played a huge part in their decision in opening Íshúsið Pizzeria.
The restaurant emphasizes on thin stone baked pizzas along with various selection of other dishes, using high quality local ingredients, among other things the famous local lobster (langoustine).

The restaurant withdraws its name from the old Íshúsið that was located at the exact same spot by the harbour in the beginning of the19th century. Íshúsið has an interesting story but the name could be translated as ‟the house of ice“, and it used to store big ice cubes that were transferred from Hoffellslón (Hoffells Glacier lagoon) in trucks in order to cool fish by the harbour.
The story and the architecture of the old house was taken into a consideration when Íshúsið Pizzeria was designed and built.
